172 Stripped, Fitted Buckets, Harnesses, and Carbon Fibre Airbox

Yesterday I was very busy!

Seats

My Kevlar Cobra Imola S' are now fitted into the car. The hardest part was fitting the subframes correctly to the sidemounts - changed them a million times!

Here is what I did to fit them:-

1] Jack up car in correct point [along the ridge see pic]
2] Disconnect battery
3] Pull rubber caps off underbody
4] Undo 8 x 13mm Top Hat nuts under the car with extension bar
5] Unclip all wiring under the seats
6] Push seats back so that the bolts pop out of the holes
7] Carefully remove them [they weigh a ton!]
8] Complete resistor wiring to fool ECU [airbags/seatbelt pretensioners] I followed Eddes Guide on Cliosport.net
8] Place new seats [connected to subframes] over the mounting holes
9] Insert your specialist strengthened bolts and washers through mounting holes [see previous post]
10] Get under the car and tighten Top Hat bolts that you took off the previous seats onto the new bolts [you will need someone to hold the bolt secure inside the car]

Job done!

Stripping

I didnt go for the full strip, I attempted it but there were wires everywhere. The std Renault plastic trim is very cheap - so is very light anyway.

This is quite straight forward, but you will need to force some clips out of the panels - so dont be wary of big cracking noises!

1] Remove bolt that holds the rear seat beam in
2] Remove 2 x bolts that holds the rear bench in
3] Remove the bottom seats by flipping them forward
4] Push rear bench forward and remove from car
5] Take out all rear carpet, parcel shelf and spare wheel
6] Remove all seatbelts by pulling trim away from bodywork
7] remove the rear seatbelt clips [but keep bolts]
8] You can strip as much or little as you want - even the dashboard!

Harnesses

These are simple to bolt in but difficult to configure for your body.

Bolt each harness into the following points [3 point]

1] Outer lower seatbelt point
2] Point on your Cobra subframe
3] Rear seatbelt point

BMC Carbon Fibre Airbox

Simple as really - unbolt old one, bolt new one in!

The noise is tremendous!

Results

Well the combo of lightening the car [removed interior weighed a total of 87.8kgs] of its really heavy interior, fitting 5.5kg seats, and installing the BMC Carbon fibre airbox - makes the 172 fly! Its picks up speed so quickly, its really noticeable. The handling feels even more responsive and nimble! Oh and the noise! you can hear everything much more clearly - the BMC kit is VERY loud when you gun it!

I found a loose screw on the heatshield when I was under the car but this hasnt solved them problem. So I listened to the car when it was vibrating and thought it could be the injector rail, I removed it and its still there! Lets try the exhaust next!

Here are some pics [more in my gallery].
