Lowering The Driving Position Of My Cobra Imola Seats

After sitting in Yozzasports TB'd Demo Clio I realised that my Cobra side mounts were mounted the wrong way.... Oooops! Making the lowest setting of the ride height quite high.

I had to dismantle the subframes, side mounts, and remove the seat from the car to reconfigure it.

It took me ages so I only got on side done!

The difference is staggering, it felt like I was driving a Range Rover compared. I have dropped the ride height by 2.5 inches!!!! You can only see my head through the window now - the driving position is perfect. Im surprised at how effective this little tweak is.

Track Bug Meets YozZa's TB'd Track Beast

Look good dont they! ;)

Yozzasport Update

Yoz rang me up to say that he has finished fixing my Track Bug on a budget!

He has fitted some Brembo disks at the rear, which were machined by his engineers so that the ABS rings would fit. Pressed some new bearings into the disks, and fitted a new axle. Cheers Yoz!

I will pick it up once I get a chance.

Some pics he sent me;-

RAF Barkston Heath Trackday with Javelin... The Good News and The Bad

Both myself and my partner went on the Javelin trackday to RAF Barkston Heath Airfield.

The organisers were fantastic - really helpfull, and so were the other attendees. There were are large range of cars from Porker 966 911's, Westies, Evo's, VX220's, to other hot hatches.

There were 2 courses - Sprint course, and a Slalom [for drifting]. I spent all morning on the sprint course as I was aiming on perfecting my lap. I got it down to 57.2 secs. I have been told that time is very respectable!!!! [not that I timed it - for legal reasons! ;-)]

The Clio is a weapon. It accelerated with a massive kick, the braking bit powerfully, and the Clio turned in and carried out its handling duties precisely. I even got it into controlled 4 wheel slides on the last 3 laps, I have learnt so much about this car today! With the course so narrow you needed to have your wits about you, and most importantly confidence in your setup.

12:10 struck disaster though..... my drivers side rear wheel bearing disintegrated locking up the wheel. I had to order a low loader to take us home and drop the 172 at Yozzasport for replacement disks and bearings. These are one of the only things I had not replaced. I was very lucky because a locked rear wheel could have caused a major accident.

So overall I am happy - not with the cost of some new parts and labour [im broke!] but because I am confident that my little bug 172 is one of the fastest things on the track. It is so, so, so, much fun I cannot keep the smile off my face! Neither can my partner! ;-)

My love affair with my little bug continues!

Engine Bay Colour Coding 3 - Track Day Tomorrow.

Got my plenum finished.

Had to give it numerous coats, shave the paint off the lettering, file the lettering down and buff it up, then give it all a generous helping of lacquer. It looks alot cleaner than it was before!

I also ripped out all insulation out of the bonnet so that it doesn't stick to the new paint and its more weight saving!

I also have my track day tomorrow so I am getting everything ready now. Early start - 6:30AM start.... my neighbours are going to kill me with the Yozzasport Ragnotti waking them up! At least the forecast looks good!

Engine Bay Colour Coding 2

Ive spent the whole of the afternoon colour coding the plenum and engine cover.

I have chosen anthracite for the cover [same as the badges] and bright red for the plenum. I used plastic primer, paint, and lacquer on the cover... and numerous coats of caliper paint for the plenum.

I also painted the end of my towing eye that I had to buy today from Renault for a princely sum of £7.

Fire!

I installed an extinguisher - big enough until the marshals get there [hopefully I wont experience that!]

I have also removed alot of the decals [mostly side and rear ones] - They were too much IMO.
